Obedience Levels

Working through these levels should get you to the point of having complete off lead control of your dogs.


Puppy

Positions
Learning how to sit and go down on cue, and beginning to add duration

Walking
Beginning to walk to heel, both on and off lead. Able to keep a loose lead and focus on handler when asked.

Stays
Beginning to be able to settle by the side of handler, and starting to walk away.

Play/drop
Able to play with a toy nicely, and drop on cue.

Greetings
Able to greet other dogs calmly, and disengage after three seconds, and focus on handler.

Leave
Starting to understand the cue ‘Leave’ and be able to disengage from the object on cue.


Bronze

Loose Lead Walking
A short course with minimal distractions.

Heelwork
Five metres off-lead heelwork.

Emergency Stop
Stop at side when Handler stops, and wait while handler walks away.

Stay
One minute next to handler.

Leave
Leaves one bowl of food, whilst walking past on lead.

Hold/Drop
Hold and release object from handlers hands.

Recall
Recall from 10 metres with minimal distractions.

Send Away
Send away independently over five metres.


Silver Award

Loose Lead Walking
Around a course with some distractions.

Heelwork
Heel round a short course with minimal distractions.

Emergency Stop
Stop and wait from heel while handler walks away, without the handler pausing.

Stay
Three minutes next to handler.

Leave
Leaves two sequential bowls of food, whilst walking past, on lead.

Hold/Drop
Pick up object from a short distance and promptly return to handler and place in handlers hands.

Recall
Recall from 20 metres with minimal distractions.

Send Away
Send away independently over ten metres.


Gold Award

Loose Lead Walking
Around a course with large distractions, and out on road or street.

Heelwork
Heel round a course with large distractions, and 10 metres on a street (lead attached for safety).

Emergency Stop
Stop on recall and on sendaway.

Stay
Two and a half minutes next to handler, then handler walks away for further one and a half minutes.

Leave
Leaves two sequential bowls of food from heel, off lead.
Then, leaves two bowls of food on recall.

Hold/Drop
Holds a Stay while item is placed out at a distance. Is sent to item, picks up item and promptly returns to handler, placing item in handler’s hands.

Recall
Recall from at least 20 metres with large distractions

Send Away
Sent away to a variety of objects, independently, over 15 or more metres.
